Paul "Mac" McRedmond

Mac began his training in the martial arts in 1966 with Aikido and has progressed through Tae Kwon Do, Kodokan Judo, Shotokan Karate, Ju-jitsu, Kendo, Kajukenbo, Shorin-ryu karate, boxing, fencing, grappling and several styles of the Filipino fighting and weapons arts, earning Black Belts and Advanced Instructor status in five of these arts. He competed regionally in kumite and kata from 1984 to 1999, winning the national gold medal in kumite in the 1994 Police and Fire Olympics.

After a stint in the military from 1969 - 1976, including a tour in Vietnam as a combat medic, he became a librarian (some called him 'Conan the Librarian') before turning to the criminal justice field in 1988. In his 12 years as a Corrections Officer, his specialty was dealing with the most 'disturbed' of the inmate population, having great success in peacefully solving problems and violent/potentially violent situations.

In 2000, at the age of 50, he became a police officer and has worked as a School Resource Officer, PIO, river patrol officer, patrol officer, SWAT trainer, field training officer and survival skills instructor.

Mac's specialty is in designing specific-needs physical, tactical and reflexive courses to meet the needs of individuals and groups, both professional and private. These courses must be practical, liability-considered, easy to learn and retain, not physical-stature based (a 120 pound person must be able to apply the concepts and techniques as well as a 250-pound person) and easy to use in emotionally-charged situations.
